Southend United "disappointed" by Barry Corr exit
New Cambridge United signing Barry Corr says that the club's ambition was a key factor in him choosing to move to the Abbey Stadium.
The Irishman decided to switch from Southend United, despite playing a starring role in their promotion to League One.
He's agreed a two-year deal.
30-year-old Corr netted 15 league goals for the Shrimpers last season as they eventually went on to beat Wycombe Wanderers in the League Two play-off final.
He joins centre-backs Mark Roberts and Leon Legge, as well as midfielder Keith Keane, in joining the U's this summer.
Many Southend fans were bemused that their top scorer had been allowed to leave the club, with some taking to Twitter to vent their frustration.
The Shrimpers say that they are "disappointed" by the striker's decision, but added that they wish him well in the future.
A number of other players have been allowed to leave the club, including Connor Clifford, Paul Smith and Lee Barnard.
However, Adam Thompson, Michael Timlin, Will Atkinson, Gary Deegan and Adam Barrett have all been offered new deals while Luke Prosser, John White and David Worrall have had their contracts renewed.
