Bedfordshire Chief Constable takes early retirement after two years

The Chief Constable of Bedfordshire Police has announced she is taking early retirement after two years.

Colette Paul took the top job at the Bedfordshire force in 2013.

During her career she's also served with the Metropolitan Police Service, and South Wales Police.

Deputy Chief Constable Jon Boutcher will be taking over as temporary chief constable.

Since joining more 33 years ago, Ms Paul, has spent much of her career as a detective, including working in the Vice Unit, Murder Squad, Anti-Terrorist Branch and the Race and Violent Crime Task Force.

Ms Paul said: “Following a greatly rewarding career, I have taken the decision to retire from policing to take a different direction in life's great adventure.

"I will be getting married this year, will be travelling widely, and I look forward to spending quality time with my family, in particular my two elderly parents, all of whom have been extremely supportive throughout my career."

Olly Martins, Police and Crime Commissioner for Bedfordshire, said: “Colette has been an inspirational Chief Constable for Bedfordshire and has had a demonstrably positive impact on the force in these particularly challenging financial circumstances.

"I am incredibly grateful for her commitment and support over the last two years and, like the force, I will miss her. I wish her every success and happiness in the future.”
