Work has started on the Northern section of Bedford's Western Bypass. The £18.6 million pound scheme should be completed in 2016.

The official sod cutting ceremony marked the end of a 50 year wait for a completed western bypass for Bedford. This section will link the A4280 at Bromham Road with the A6 at Clapham.

The Western Bypass as a whole should reduce the amount of traffic travelling through the town by linking from the A428 south of Bedford to the A6 heading north of the town.
