Mother of Suffolk Ebola survivor 'immensely proud' of son for returning to Sierra Leone

Will Pooley contracted Ebola in August while nursing in a hospital in Freetown.

Will Pooley headed out to Sierra Leone at the weekend to continue nursing the thousands of people infected with Ebola. It was something he said he needed to do.

Back in his home village of Eyke, his mum says the family is worried but they are incredibly proud he has gone back.

Will contracted Ebola in August while nursing in a hospital in Freetown. The RAF flew him back and he was transported to the Royal Free Hospital in London where his parents were waiting.

Will spent 10 days in an isolation unit and was given the experimental drug ZMapp. He made a quick recovery, but he knows how lucky he was.

The family loved having him back, but they knew he would go back as soon as he could.

The World Health Organisation has warned that at the rate the disease is spreading there could be 10,000 cases a week by December. To date there have been over 4 and half thousand deaths and situation is critical.

"It's something beyond our comprehension", says Mrs Pooley. "It's so dire out there. We all need to face how critical this situation is. They need aid, they need supplies and they need money and they need it now."

That is why Jackie says she always knew Will would return and why, despite the risks, she is so proud he has.
