Despite boundary changes and the UKIP threat, the Conservatives have retained control of Northamptonshire County Council in 2013 with a majority of 15.

Labour have replaced the Liberal Democrats as the main opposition.

Northamptonshire is the only county council in the Anglia region where a party other than the Conservatives has won a working majority. Labour ran the council between 1993 and 2005 although the Conservatives have run it since then.

Boundary changes since the the last election in 2009 will reduce the number of county councillors from the current 73 to 57. Therefore any party needs 27 councillors for an outright majority and control of the council.

In the last election in 2009, the Conservatives won 56 seats and the Liberal Democrats replaced Labour as the main opposition.
