The Conservatives have lost control of Cambridgeshire County Council and the council is now hung with no one party having enough seats to out-vote all the rest. The Tories are still the largest party with 32 seats.

The Liberal Democrats are still the main opposition with 14 seats but their number was reduced by nine compared with 2009.

The Conservatives won 42 of the 69 seats on Cambridgeshire Council Council in the last local elections in 2009. The Liberal Democrats are main opposition in the county with the biggest group of councillors on any of the county councils in the Anglia region.

UKIP won their first seat on the council in 2009 and doubled its representation with a defection by a Conservative councillor. Labour were left with just two councillors after a disastrous election four years ago.

Both parties will be the main challengers for the Tories and the Lib Dems. UKIP leader Nigel Farage made two visits to Cambridgeshire during the election campaign and is hoping to make gains.
