Rough treatment from Rough Guide?

Southwold is praised in a new Rough Guide Credit: ITV Anglia

A new book looking at what Norfolk and Suffolk has to offer has given the counties mixed reviews.

From the Rough Guide series, it combines the complimentary and the critical - saying that "not even the greatest apologist for run-down seaside towns would make much of a case for Great Yarmouth". Yet it praises Beccles in Suffolk as typical of what "makes visiting East Anglian market towns such a pleasure".

It lists these as the top things to see and do in Norfolk and Suffolk: Orford Ness, Holt's shops, Thetford Forest, Cromer crabs, Holkham Bay, local brews, Blickling Hall, Blakeney seal spotting, Norwich Cathedral, messing about in boats, bird watching, East Ruston Vicarage Garden, St Helen's Garden, St Helen's, Ranworth, Winterton-on-Sea, Bury St Edmunds, Southwold Pier, Dunwich Heath, Horsey Mere and windmill, Ipswich Waterfront, Aldeburgh Festival, Bewilderwood and Constable Country.
