England legends react to reaching World Cup semi-finals

Semi-finalists from the last two occasions England reached the final four of a major tournament have reacted to beating Sweden.

In 1990 England lost on penalties to West Germany in the World Cup and suffered the same fate when they face a unified Germany at the European Championship in 1996.

Either Croatia or hosts Russia now await England after goals from Harry Maguire and Dele Alli were enough to defeat Sweden in Samara on Saturday.

Peter Shilton, who represented England at Italia '90 tweeted: "YES YES YES!! ENGLAND."

The legends will be hoping Gareth Southgate's side will be able to go at least one better than them and reach a major final, a feat not accomplished since winning the 1966 World Cup at Wembley.

Former England striker Alan Shearer tweeted a photo of the World Cup trophy with the message: "Maybe, just maybe, this little thing is coming home..."
