Madonna denies she is adopting two more children from Malawi

Madonna has denied she is adopting two more children from Malawi.

A government spokesman had said the singer was in a High Court on Wednesday, asking for an adoption order.

The singer has two other adopted children - David Banda, whom she adopted in 2008, and Mercy James, adopted a year later.

But the Material Girl insisted the claims she is to adopt again are untrue - and that she was in Malawi for charity work.

She said in a statement: "I am in Malawi to check on the children's hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi, and then heading home.

"The rumours of an adoption process are untrue."

The pop star in 2006 founded the charity Raising Malawi to address the poverty and hardship endured by the impoverished country's orphans and vulnerable children.
