Prime Minister cuts lonely figure as EU leaders prepare for Brexit talks without her
Video report by ITV News Political Correspondent Carl Dinnen
When no one's talking to you, but everyone's talking about you.
The Prime Minister cut an awkward figure today as she waited for the EU Council meeting to start.
In fairness she had already had three bilateral meetings by the time she entered the room, but it was one of those images that illustrated a broader truth; Britain is on it's own.
And she knows that later the other 27 leaders with have dinner without her, in order to talk about Brexit.
On her way into today's Council the Prime Minister told me she was pleased about it.
She said: "I welcome the fact that the other leaders will be meeting to discuss Brexit tonight as we are going to invoke Article 50, trigger the negotiations by the end of March next year.
"It's right that the other leaders prepare for those negotiations as we have been preparing."
But before sitting down for her meeting with Mrs May, the Lithuanian PM, Dalia Grybauskaite, said negotiations could be difficult for the UK because it would be one against twenty-seven.
That's certainly how it will feel tonight.
