Police officer drives grieving man 100 miles home after he finds out his sister has died
A young man who had just found out his young sister had died was unexpectedly given a lift home - by a police officer who stopped him for speeding.
Mark Ross, who lives in Indiana, received a phone call at 3am to tell him his 15-year-old sister had died and immediately asked a friend to take him all the way to Detroit in Michigan, two states away.
He and his friend immediately got in a car to drive, and were pulled over in Ohio - the next state, and some 100 miles away - for speeding.
His friend had a suspended driving license, so the car Mr Ross was in was towed, and given that Ross also had a petty warrant out for his arrest, he was expecting a jail term.
Authorities in Wayne County, Michigan, refused to send anyone to collect them "because of the distance", according to Mr Ross's Facebook post.
But Mr Ross explained to the officer, Sergeant David Robison, exactly what had happened, and broke down in tears.
To his surprise, Mr Robison prayed for his family, and decided to drive Mr Ross all the way to Detroit so he could be with his mother.
Mr Robison was even invited to the teen's funeral as a thank you from the family.
Mr Ross recounted the story in an extraordinary post on Facebook, which has been shared thousands of times.
"Everybody knows how much I dislike Cops but I am truly Greatful for this Guy," he said in the post. "He gave me hope."
