Jeremy Corbyn urges party to unite against Brexit as poll shows leave campaign in the lead
Jeremy Corbyn has urged Labour supporters to unite against a Brexit as the results of a new poll suggested that the vote Leave campaign had seen a jump in support.
Corbyn, who admitted he is "not a huge fan" of the European Union, appealed to voters to opt to stay in as it was a "practical decision" for the sake of workers' rights during an appearance on Channel 4's The Last Leg comedy chat show.
He said: "I am not a huge fan of the European Union. What I believe is that this is a practical decision that we take in order to get better conditions across the whole continent for everybody."
Earlier this week the pro-Brexit chairman of JCB told employees that there is "little to fear" from leaving the European Union and that Britain can "stand on its own two feet".
Corbyn's comments came as a new poll by ORB for the Independent suggested that the Leave campaign had seen a four-point jump in support from April and were now 10-points ahead on 55%.
It also came as prominent Labour figures stepped up their campaigning with Ed Miliband, Tom Watson and Chuka Umunna insisting Brexit was not the solution to widespread concerns over the impact of immigration.
