Sarah Wollaston tells ITV News: Other MPs considering defecting from Vote Leave
Dr Sarah Wollaston has told ITV News that other MPs are considering whether to defect from the Leave campaign.
"Of course but it's for them to articulate," she told our Deputy Political Editor Chris Ship.
"I think there are many people who have expressed their concerns...politicians just like the public are torn with this decision."
Dr Sarah Wollaston interview in full:
The Tory MP for Totnes said she had undergone a change of heart because she believed the "grave economic shock" of a Brexit would severely impact the health service.
"I've come to the view that the health of the nation will be worse off and the NHS will be worse off if we leave the European Union," she said.
She again attacked Vote Leave for saying Brexit would free up £350 million a week for the NHS, saying it "simply isn't true".
"I could never have stepped on board the battle bus with what I view to be an untruthful, misleading figure on the side of it," she said.
Vote Leave has defended its use of the figure.
She said she gave Prime Minister David Cameron prior notice about her intention to switch sides.
But Wollaston strongly denied she had been pressured by Downing Street into the decision or was seeking a promotion to the Cabinet in a post-referendum reshuffle.
Despite saying the EU remained deeply flawed, Dr Wollaston said she came to the realisation that she would wake up "feeling like we've lost something" if the leave campaign emerged victorious on the morning of June 24.
She also said there were "faults" on both sides in producing misleading figures during the campaign, citing Remain's claim that a Brexit would cost families £4,300 a year.
"The public deserve better from both camps."
