Surrey farmer Robert Fidler, who built a mock castle without planning permission and then fought unsuccessfully for 10 years to keep it, has begun to tear the building down.

Mr Fidler originally concealed the mock Tudor building behind hay bales in a bid to take advantage of a legal loophole that allows structures to remain if there has not been any objection within a certain time period.

But his mansion was discovered by council officials in 2006 and he began a long-battle to try to keep it, which almost resulted in him being sent to jail.
