Why did they wait 27 years to tell the truth about Hillsborough?, asks victim's father
Video report by ITV News Correspondent Damon Green.
The father of one of the Hillsborough disaster's victims has asked today why the families were kept waiting 27 years for the truth about what happened that day to come out.
Speaking to ITV News, Barry Devonside said "everybody knew the police had cocked up" the day his son Chris had died along with 95 others at Hillsborough and questioned why the families could not have had the truth reaffirmed sooner.
Confronting the match commander in charge David Duckenfield, outside court after an inquest finally delivered a "unlawful killing" finding today, Mr Devonside asked "why have you kept my wife, my daughter and all of the other families waiting 27 years to tell the truth?"
And although Mr Devonside did not get an answer, just an apology from Duckenfield, it is clear the pain of that fateful day his son died at a football match along with two of his friends is still as fresh as ever as he paid tribute to his boy.
He said: "We loved him, absolutely adored him. Where Chris is concerned he never ever caused us a problem he was a pleasure to be with, he was a pleasure to have round."
