Emilia Clarke has unintentionally started off a new hashtag campaign on Twitter - and her mum won't be too happy about it.

The actress, most well-known in her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, was asked about her feelings on nudity by James Corden on the Late Late Show.

She said: "I feel like there's a little bit of inequality between the amount of nudity that happens with women - this woman in particular - and what happens with the other guys.

"I just think that that should be even. Free the p!"

It isn't the first time she's talked about it either.

She had previously told Conan O'Brien on his show that her mum doesn't like her talking about it, but she feels strongly that it's unfair: "There's plenty of female nudity [in Game of Thrones], and I think it should be a bit more of a discussion."

"So we get some, you know, equal male and female nudity," she said as the crowd cheered in support.

Game of Thrones is well-known for its scenes with naked female characters - a blogger even coined the phrase "sexposition" in response to the show's constant nudity when crucial plot points are discussed.

The last season of Game of Thrones saw Queen mother Cersei - played by Lena Headey - publicly shamed and forced to walk through the town naked.

Before that, Emilia herself was seen naked in the first season, and her female colleagues have also starred in several nude scenes across the first five seasons.

In contrast, only a few men have been seen naked - most notably Alfie Allen in his role as Theon Greyjoy.

Fans have taken to Twitter to take up her cause, tweeting support of the hashtag #freethepenism and #freethep and calling for more equality when it comes to nudity.
