Ten jailed for more than 125 years for sex offences against eight victims
Ten men who committed sexual offences against a vulnerable teenage girl in Rochdale over a period of five years have been jailed for more than 125 years.
The girl made a complaint to police shortly after widespread media coverage of the 2012 convictions at Liverpool Crown Court of a number of Asian defendants for grooming white girls for sex in the town.
She told officers that from the age of 14 she too had been repeatedly sexually groomed by a large number of men in Rochdale.
The victim with learning difficulties was said by prosecutors to be an "extremely vulnerable young woman" who had endured "a very difficult home life".
The girl said that "hundreds" of men would ring her up for sex.
The men were investigated as part of Operation Doublet, an inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Rochdale.
Nine men were sentenced on Friday, and another last year, for offences involving the original complainant and other victims, some also under-age, that took place in and around Rochdale, mainly between 2005 and 2010.
Seven other complainants, who were aged 13 to 22 at the time, also came forward to testify which secured convictions against a number of the defendants.
Afraz Ahmed, 33, of Oswald Street, Rochdale, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for various sexual offences, including rape, conspiracy to rape and sexual activity with a child, in relation to five underage victims.
Mohammed Dauood, 38, of Leyland Road, Burnley, was jailed for 16 years for offences in relation to two victims including rape, sexual activity with a child and sexual assault.
David Law, 46, of Colmanhay Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, was sentenced to 11 years for conspiracy to rape.
Rehan Ali, 27, of Cleethorpes Avenue, Blackley, was sentenced to seven years for rape and sexual activity with a child.
Kutab Miah, 35, of Ramsey Street, Rochdale, was sentenced to nine years for rape and sexual activity with a child.
Abid Khan, 38, of Whitney Road, Liverpool, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for sexual activity with a child.
Mohammed Zahid, 54, of Croxton Avenue, Rochdale, was sentenced to five years in prison for sexual activity with a child.
Choudhry Ikhalaq Hussain, 38, formerly of Mayfield Terrace, Rochdale, was sentenced in his absence to 19 years for rape, sexual activity with a child and conspiracy to rape. He is believed to be currently in Pakistan after he left the country during his trial.
A 40-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to 23 years for rape and attempting to abduct a child in relation to three victims. He was also give eight years on extended license.
Mahfuz Rahman, 29, currently at HMP Garth, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to three counts of sexual activity with a child. He was jailed for five-and-a-half years last September.
