Buckingham Palace file press complaint against The Sun over claims Queen holds Eurosceptic views
Buckingham Palace has registered a complaint with the Independent Press Standards Organisation about a report in The Sun newspaper which claimed the Queen had voiced strong anti-EU views during a lunch with former Deputy PM Nick Clegg.
The Palace insists that the Queen is "politically neutral" over the EU referendum after the article was published, which claimed she backed Brexit in a row with former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
Speaking earlier, Mr Clegg dismissed the article as "nonsense."
A spokesman for Buckingham Palace told The Sun newspaper: "The Queen remains politically neutral, as she has for 63 years. We would never comment on spurious, anonymously sourced claims.
“The referendum will be a matter for the British people."
