Business chief 'suspended after campaigning for Brexit'

A business chief has reportedly been suspended after he went on radio to campaign for Brexit - going against the stance of his organisation.

The director-general of the British Chambers of Commerce John Longworth said on Thursday that he favoured leaving the EU.

He was later temporarily suspended from the BCC for breaching the group’s official position of neutrality, the Financial Times reported.

The BCC said it will not be campaigning for either side ahead of the referendum.

On a statement on their website, the organisation said: "The BCC will survey Chamber member companies across the UK, report their diverse views, and inform the debate.

“The BCC’s Director General has been very clear where his remarks reflect his personal assessment, rather than the position of the BCC.”

The BCC did not comment on Mr Longworth's reported suspension.
