How parents can keep their children safe from online porn
The government has launched a consultation on how children can be stopped from accessing online pornography.
Age verification to stop children accessing porn websites
Campaigners have said it is a growing problem, and recent figures show in May 2015 1.4 million children accessed adult content online.
The website internetmatters.org has advise on how parents can ensure their children are not using the internet to access inappropriate content.
Talk
Explaining to your children that porn does not represent a realistic idea of sex or relationships is important. Give them positive messages about relationships, and take a no-blame approach to the conversation.
Block access
Using parental controls, access to inappropriate material can be restricted. Turn on safety or child modes on search engines and on websites such as YouTube. You can even set parental controls on your operating system.
Block popups
Unwanted popups can inadvertently lead to adult content if clicked on. Use software to block popups.
Check browser history
Checking your internet browser history will let you know if your child has been searching for anything inappropriate. These terms can be added to a parental controls filter list.
