Huge crane collapses in New York City neighbourhood

At least one person has been killed and two people are in a serious condition after a large crane collapsed in a neighbourhood in central New York City.

Pictures posted to social media showed the crane laying on the road, with several cars underneath it.

The New York City Fire Department said the crane had collapsed at 40 Worth Street and West Broadway in the Tribeca area of lower Manhattan.

More images posted to Twitter by the fire department showed the crane's base flipped over.

Other images showed rubble on the side of the street following the collapse - the cause of which is not yet known.
