VICE News reporter Mohammed Rasool released on bail after 131 days in prison

Journalist Mohammed Rasool has been released on bail 131 days after being detained in a Turkish prison.

The VICE News reporter was arrested along with British journalists Jake Hanrahan and cameraman Philip Pendlebury on August 27 last year while working in the region.

Mr Hanrahan and Mr Pendlebury were released after 11 days in a Turkish prison, but Mr Rasool remained in custody.

On Tuesday, VICE News confirmed he had been released on bail.

"Whilst Pendlebury and Hanrahan were released after 11 days, Rasool remained detained for over four months, charged with ‘assisting a terrorist organisation’," VICE said in a statement.

"Rasool is now looking forward to being reunited with his family, friends and colleagues, who ask for his privacy to be respected during this time."

Mr Hanrahan tweeted that he was "happy beyond belief" following the news".
