'Affluenza Teen' Ethan Couch who killed four in a drink driving smash sought by police
Police have been ordered to arrest a teenager from a wealthy background who killed four people whilst drunk driving in 2013.
Texan teenager Ethan Couch was controversially sentenced to 10 years probation and banned from driving and drinking following the deadly smash in June 2013, when he was just 16.
At the time, his lawyers and a psychologist attributed his actions to "affluenza" - a condition where a person feels shielded from problems by money and having led a life of privilege paid for by his parents.
Parole officers haven't been able to contact Couch or his mother, prompting officers to issue a “directive to apprehend” the teen.
NBC Dallas Fort Worth News says that a six second video posted on Twitter appears to show a young teenager that looks like Couch watching a beer pong game.
The person who posted the tweet claims that Couch was in violation of his probation, which prevents him from driving and using drugs or alcohol.
According to the NBC News affiliate, Couch's legal team, Regan Wynn and Scott Brown, released this statement on 16 December:
Tarrant County Sherriff Dee Anderson confirmed that a "directive to apprehend" Couch had been issued - the equivalent of an adult arrest warrant.
Anderson said he was unsurprised to see Couch in trouble with the legal system again, roughly two years after admitting responsibility in juvenile court for the fatal crash and his subsequent sentencing trial where the “affluenza” defense was used.
