Real Madrid have been kicked out of the Copa del Rey after fielding the suspended Denis Cheryshev against Cadiz.

The Russian was supposed to be unavailable after receiving a ban when on loan at Villarreal last season, but still started the game and scored before being substituted early in the second half of the 3-1 victory.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez told a press conference on Thursday: "The one-match ban for three yellow cards in our view is not effective because no-one has notified the player as specified in item 41.2 of the Disciplinary Code of the RFEF."

Head coach Rafa Benitez insisted that was not at his mind at his press conference ahead of their game with Getafe.

"The president has made things clear. That is the truth, and there is nothing more to say on our part," Benitez said, with his team trying to build on last weekend's 2-0 league win at Eibar.

"The president has already explained the situation. We are here to speak about the Getafe game. Everything that happened was clear. I will not go into these issues."
