Couple charged after toddler burns to death inside oven

A mother and her boyfriend have been charged over the death of a 19-month-old girl who became trapped inside an oven and was burned.

Toddler J'zyra Thompson was left alone along with a five-year-old and two three-year-olds in an apartment when the tragedy occurred.

Pregnant Racqual Thompson, 25, and Cornell Malone have been charged with endangering a child following the incident in Houston on November 16.

Thompson and Malone are said to have left the children alone at around 8pm and returned two hours later, discovering that the oven had been tipped over and was turned on.

Thompson tried to resuscitate her daughter but she died of her injuries.

The other children are now in foster care and a judge ruled they should remain so for the time being.

Thompson and Malone are due to appear in court on Wednesday.
