Has there been a terrorist plot to attack the UK in the last few weeks?
Has there been a terrorist plot to attack the UK in the last few weeks?
David Cameron has just told a press conference at the G20 summit in Turkey that UK security services have foiled seven plots to attack this country in the last year.
That raises the question of whether there has been a very recent attempt.
And here is why.
On 17 September, Andrew Parker, the head of the Security Service (better known as MI5) told BBC Radio 4 that the UK's intelligence services had foiled SIX plots in the last year.
On 4 November, Home Secretary Theresa May told the House of Commons that "six significant terrorist plots have been disrupted here in the UK" in the last twelve months.
But today, both in a radio interview this morning and at the G20 press conference in Turkey, David Cameron announced that Britain's "security services have stopped seven attacks" in the last year.
A Downing Street spokesman also confirmed seven plots when asked to confirm the Prime Minister's remarks.
Number 10 won't be drawn on whether there has been an ADDITIONAL attempt by terrorists to attack Britain in the last two weeks.
However, if the three announcements by the MI5 boss, the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister are all correct - it rather suggests this country has been targeted again.
And very recently.
