Prime Minister pledges 'heart and soul' to keeping Britain in the European Union
The Prime Minister has pledged to campaign with "all my heart and soul" to keep the United Kingdom inside a reformed European Union.
In a letter to the President of the European Council Donald Tusk that coincided with a speech, David Cameron outlined his demands for an amended EU that would keep Britain inside the network of nations.
Mr Cameron's four points are:
Protect the single market for Britain and others outside the eurozone
Write "competitiveness into the DNA" of the whole European Union
Exempt Britain from an ever-closer union
Tackle abuses to the right to freedom of movement and enable the UK to control migration from the EU.
In response to the letter, Mr Tusk took to Twitter to acknowledge the letter, saying he will launch "bilateral consultations" ahead of negotiations to keep the UK inside the union.
Mr Cameron also used the letter to say he is looking forward to a "substantive discussion" with the European Council in December.
He also reminded Mr Tusk of the "enormous contribution" as the region's second largest economy Britain brings to the EU.
