Thousands more VW group vehicles have been thrown into the scandal this afternoon.

Volkswagen UK is removing 4000 cars and vans from sale because they have the engine at the centre of the test cheating fiasco.

This represents around 3% of UK forecourt stock for the group.

The VW team in Britain is stressing that this is a voluntary initiative and that it is temporary.

It's clear they are acting to defend the brands already battered reputation, but it means that customers could have been buying new cars effected by this scandal right up until today.

The new development covers VW cars, VW commercial vehicles, SEAT, Skoda and Audi.
