Video captures dramatic moment orcas hunt dolphin

Two New Zealand fishermen were caught up in high drama at sea when they found themselves floating near a pod of orcas hunting down a bottlenose dolphin.

The pair captured the orcas on video as the pod chased and eventually drowning the dolphin in the Hauraki Gulf.

The footage captures a moment a small fishing boat is almost hit by the hunting killer whales as they chase the dolphin.

But shortly afterwards, a killer whale is inches away from their own vessel.

"We gotta get out here. We're in the middle of a feeding frenzy," one of the fishermen is heard saying.

Moments later, the orcas return to the hunt and soon the dolphin is overpowered by the sea mammals.

One of the fishermen says there is a "funny smell in the air" shortly after the hunt.

"They're all having a bit of a mixed entrée," he added.
