Jeremy Corbyn has unveiled his plans for a "people's railway", under which a Labour government would fast-track the renationalisation of the rail network.

If elected, Mr Corbyn says routes would be renationalised as their franchises expired, meaning a third could be brought into public ownership by 2025.

Franchises due to expire between 2020 and 2025 include East Coast, Southeastern and the TransPennine Express.

The Labour leader told the Independent on Sunday:

Franchises due to expire between 2020 and 2025 include East Coast, Southeastern and the TransPennine Express.

Mr Corbyn will formally announce the policy at the Labour party conference in Brighton next weekend.
