Syrian migrants celebrate arrival in Europe by posing for selfie on the beach
An elated group of Syrian migrants were spotted using a 'selfie stick' to take a group photo upon their arrival on a beach on the Greek island of Kos.
The image, captured by a Reuters photographer, offers a contrast to the media images more commonly associates with Europe's migrant crisis.
The group in the photograph appears to have crossed part of the Aegean Sea in an overcrowded dinghy from Turkey.
Greece has seen tens of thousands of refugees fleeing conflict around the world arriving on its Mediterranean islands.
About 124,000 have arrived this year by sea, according to Vincent Cochetel, an official with the UN refugee agency.
Last week Alexis Tsipras, the Greek prime minister, called on European nations to help Greece tackle the influx of migrants saying the boatloads of migrants had triggered a "humanitarian crisis within the economic crisis".
The selfie stick was listed by Time as one of the 'best inventions of 2014'.
