Teenager saves life of suicidal man sitting on edge of bridge by simply asking: 'Are you okay?'

A teenager has touched the hearts of thousands with his story of how three simple words helped him save a man who was about to take his own life.

Jamie Harrington, 17, managed to persuade the distressed man to climb down from the edge of a bridge in Dublin and seek hospital treatment.

The man is now expecting a baby with his wife and the couple are set to name their son after Jamie.

He says Jamie brought him back from the brink of suicide by simply asking: "Are you okay?"

Since Jamie's heartwarming story was posted on the Humans of Dublin Facebook page, it has attracted nearly 40,000 likes and been shared thousands of times.

"I stopped and asked him if he was okay, but I knew from the look in his eyes he wasn't, and he didn't say anything either, but I saw tears coming from his eyes," Jamie explained on the post.

"I pleaded with him for a while to come down and sit on the steps, and eventually he did."

The teenager stayed in touch with the man, who informed him three months ago that his wife was expecting.

"They're having a boy, and they're naming him after me - can you believe that? They're going to name their child after me."
