A suspected migrant from Calais is believed to have walked nearly the entire length of the Channel Tunnel, before being detained by police.

The man, who is understood to be Sudanese, was found close to the Folkestone exit in Kent, on Tuesday evening, just after 6pm.

He is understood to have walked nearly the entire length of the 31-mile long tunnel.

Kent Police said Abdul Rahman Haroun, 40, has been charged with causing an obstruction to an engine or carriage using the railway under the Malicious Damage Act 1861.

He is due to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court.

The Home Office's immigration enforcement team is also investigating the incident.

As the migrant crisis in Calais continues, French and British authorities have struggled to cope with nightly attempted incursions into the Channel Tunnel by migrants.
