'Moron' militant's selfie leads to destruction of Islamic State HQ
A selfie posted by a 'moron' member of the so-called Islamic State terror group resulted in the destruction of a headquarters building in Syria by the US Air Force, it has been reported.
USAF General Hawk Carlise told specialist website military.com that specialists in Florida monitoring IS social media traffic this week were able to use information gleaned from the metadata in the militant's photo into a successful air strike less than 24 hours after it was posted.
The general, who refused to reveal the actual method of location, said:
Precision-guided JDAM bombs range from 227-907kg and are usually dropped from the USAF's B2 Stealth Bomber.
Today, Reuters reported that the US and its allies staged 17 airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Syria and northern Iraq in the last 24-hours.
