Video: Chinese goalkeeper Sui Weijie fined for drinking water during goal

The moment Sui Weijie realised what he had done.

Chinese goalkeeper Sui Weijie has been fined 50,000 yuan (£5,240) after allowing an opponent to score while he sipped on a bottle of water.

Weijie's Super League team are currently struggling just above the relegation zone in China, and were leading rivals Lianoning Whowin 1-0 when they conceded the comical equaliser on Sunday.

Liaoning midfielder Ding Haifeng latched onto a quickly taken free-kick and slotted past an empty net while Chongqing Lifan's hapless stopper enjoyed his refreshment beside the far post, seemingly oblivious.

After the match, which ended 1-1, he accepted full responsibility and told local reporters:

"I made a terrible mistake in Sunday’s game and let go a full three points. I won’t repeat the same mistake and will never lose concentration."

Weijie was later confronted by angry Lifan supporters at Liaoning`s Shenyang Airport on Monday, and could yet face suspension from his club.

Water nightmare!
