Historic Olympic torch bought for £420,000 by Saracens rugby boss
One of the rarest torches in Olympic history has sold for £420,000 at auction to the owner of Saracens Rugby Club.
The 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games torch is one of only 15 made for the event - compared to the 8,000 made for London 2012 - most of which are now owned by museums and institutions.
Saracens owner Nigel Wray secured the torch at a Sotheby's sale in New Bond Street, London - meaning he now owns an Olympic torch from every game since Berlin in 1936. His bid exceeded the torch's estimated pre-sale value of £300,000-£400,000.
