Pressure mounts on Miliband over SNP deal

Pressure is growing on Ed Miliband over his insistence that he will not lead a Labour government on a deal with the Scottish National Party.

David Cameron said Miliband's comments "change nothing" and that a hung parliament could still result in a Labour premiership propped up by Nicola Sturgeon's party.

Tories also pointed to comments from Labour frontbenchers, which they said indicated a minority Miliband administration would be reliant on SNP votes even without a formal deal.

Nicola Sturgeon claimed Miliband has "lost the plot" - saying his remarks would just drive more people to vote for nationalists.

She said: "Ed Miliband's disastrous revelation that he would rather let the Tories back in than work with the SNP to keep them out will galvanise even more people to vote SNP."

In a stunt organised by senior Tory Michael Gove, around 50 activists wearing Nicola Sturgeon masks with a banner which read: "Next Friday, we'll make Miliband PM" stood outside parliament today.

However, Gove refused to be photographed with the group, saying the "vivid visual metaphor makes the case very powerfully."

ITV News political correspondent Libby Wiener asked Gove if he accepted the stunt was a "bit of a dirty tactic" - which he denied.
