Update: Mr Dossena and his wife have been informed by police that no further action is being taken against them

Former Liverpool star Andrea Dossena has been bailed pending further enquiries after being arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at Harrods on Tuesday.

He was arrested along with a 31 year-old woman thought to be his girlfriend at the world famous store in Knightsbridge, London.

The former Italy international, who now plays for Leyton Orient, featured in Monday's 3-3 League One draw against Gillingham.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan police confirmed:

The 33 year-old played in 18 Premier League matches after moving to Liverpool for £7m in 2008, and later joined Napoli and Sunderland before moving to London.

A Harrods spokesman said:

Leyton Orient were unavailable to comment this morning but confirmed they will be releasing a statement about the incident later today.

In February, the club's manager Fabio Liverani was forced to admit that players had not been paid on time "due to transfers in foreign bank accounts."
