Cameron 'will step down ahead of 2020 election'
David Cameron will make way for a new Conservative leader ahead of the general election expected in 2020, Cabinet minister Iain Duncan Smith has said.
Mr Duncan Smith's comments appeared to contradict Mr Cameron's assertion that he would serve "every day" of a second term if he remains in power following the May 7 general election.
Watch Political Correspondent Libby Wiener's report:
Work and Pensions Secretary Mr Duncan Smith told BBC1's Andrew Marr Show the PM would choose the timing of his departure and he would be "sorry to see him go".
Duncan Smith said Cameron would "serve what is essentially a full term" despite the Prime Minister's pledge to Jeremy Paxman on Thursday that he would serve "every day" of a second term.
Mr Cameron sparked speculation about his future by telling the BBC he was not contemplating a third term as PM, just weeks before seeking election to a second term.
