Full horror of Jimmy Savile's hospital sex attacks revealed by victims

The trauma of volunteers, staff and patients at Stoke Mandeville Hospital who were subjected to humiliating and often painful attacks by Jimmy Savile has been laid bare in a report.

The report looks at the accounts of almost 60 victims - which include children and adults, boys and girls - over a number of years while he worked on behalf of the health unit.

A number of the victims remember him smelling particularly unpleasant, while others recount him wearing flimsy clothing and sweating profusely.

Patterns of behaviour can also be picked out - he would isolate victims by inviting them to his private room at the hotel or lure them into a private room before attacking them.

In other instances, he would wait until he was alone in their treatment room, or take advantage of other adults having their backs turned, before slipping his hands under the sheets or beneath clothing.

Among just some of the disturbing tales to come from the Stoke Mandeville reportare:

• Visitor, aged 10-11.

While part of an entertainment group performing for the Savile's Travels BBC radio show, Savile asked the girl to sit on his lap. He then put his hand into her underwear and assaulted her.

• Patient, aged 14-15.

Savile would put his hands under her blankets and abuse her with his hands while she was being nursed.

• Patient, aged 18.

Savile climbed in through the window while she was heavily sedated and being treated for burns. He "lunged" at her, kissed her and put his tongue in her mouth, while asking a series of sexually explicit questions.

• Visitor, aged in her 20s.

She took her one-year-old son in for an operation, while heavily pregnant with her second child. Savile put his hands on her belly then grabbed her breasts, saying she had "a couple of good milk tanks". When she shouted at him, he apologised and left, saying "most ladies like a little fondle."

• Guest at a fundraising event, aged 9.

The boy was with his parents and had wandered away from them when Savile asked him if he would like to look inside his Rolls-Royce. Once inside the car, Savile put his hands down the front of the boy's trousers and fondled him.

• Visitor, aged 9-11.

The boy's mother worked at the hospital, and he and his sister would visit her there. Savile would often take them to his private room or to the Porters' Lodge, and on around 10 occasions pulled down the boy's trousers, groped his backside and spanked him.

• Patient, aged 25.

She was lying down when Savile climbed into bed with her and ran his hand up her leg, starting at her knee. She told him off, at which point he put his arms around her neck and put his tongue in her ear.

• Staff, aged 23.

Savile took her out in his Rolls-Royce for a Chinese meal. Upon return to the communal television room, Savile began to grope her breast and kissed her, pushing his tongue into her mouth.

• Patient, aged 12.

A porter - who she did not realise was Savile until some years later - followed her into the empty television room and raped her. She went to bed and woke up later that night to find the same porter sexually assaulting her.

• Patient, aged 11.

Savile rubbed his genitals against her arm and tried to assault her using his hands, but stopped when her screams of pain summoned a nurse.

• Patient, aged 15.

Savile invited the girl - who said she was "in awe" of him back to his room for a hot drink. There, he asked if she had ever had sex with her boyfriend. When she said no, he suggested they should do so then, and they had sex on his bed.

• Staff, aged 17.

Savile repeatedly had sex with the girl, who said she was "in awe" of him initially as he was famous. He would talk her into going to his room and put her into position before attacking her.

• Volunteer, aged 21.

She worked alongside Savile for around three years, and said he was "friendly" towards her. One night, after inviting her back to his room, he "lunged" at her and pinned her down to the bed, going on to rape her.

• Visitor, aged 11-12.

The girl went to sing at the hospital with her choir. Her teacher, who is now dead, took her into a room to meet Savile and stayed in the room while Savile raped her twice, including an oral assault.

• Child volunteer, aged 11.

When she asked for an autograph as it was her birthday, Savile pulled down her top to expose her breasts. As he signed it for her, he put his hand inside her underwear and assaulted her.
