The anonymous British street artist Banksy has traveled to the war-ravaged Palestinian enclave of Gaza.

The graffiti artist apparently got into Gaza through one of the extensive network of illegal tunnels that connect the country to the outside world.

The Bristol based graffiti artist painted a number of murals across Gaza including one, on what used to be a house, of a giant cat balling with a ball.

Banksy wrote on his website that he "wanted to highlight thedestruction in Gaza by posting photos on my website -- but on the Internet people only look at pictures of kittens."

The street artist is well known for his highly politicised work and his latest project in Gaza is designed to be a pointed criticism of the conditions that people in the Gaza strip live in.

The Palestinian enclave is still, six months on, reeling from the war between Hamas and Israel over the summer.

The conflict left 2,100 Palestinians, most of whom were civilians and many of those children, 67 Israeli soldiers and six Israeli civilians dead.
