Sir Winston Churchill's blood up for sale at auction
A phial containing blood taken from former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill as he recovered in hospital from a fractured hip is reportedly going up for sale at auction next month.
The blood was taken when Churchill was being treated in the Middlesex hospital in London in 1962 after breaking his hip while in Monaco.
According to reports the blood was about to be disposed of when a student nurse called Patricia Fitzgibbon asked if she could keep the tube, which was clearly labelled with Churchill’s name.
Ms Fitzgibbon kept the sample all of her life and it is now being sold following her death.
Duke's auction house in Dorset reportedly expects the blood to fetch between £300 and £600 when the sale takes place on 12th March.
