Giant 50ft waves are reported to be on course to hit UK coasts in the coming days as weather experts warn of global 'supertides'.

The alignment of the Earth with the Moon and the Sun means the gravitational pull on the oceans is higher than usual this year - and in the next few days, experts say seaside areas will see the highest tides for 25 years.

The high tides have sparked flood warnings from the Environment Agency, which has warned of disruption along the coast until Monday.

Devon, Cornwall and the Bristol Channel, as well as Wales and the Midlands, are at highest risk.

Monmouthshire Council has already said it will be closing roads for safety reasons.
