Trinity Mirror prints apology to phone hacking victims
The publisher of the Daily Mirror has today published an apology to victims of phone hacking carried out by journalists at its national titles.
Appearing on page two under the headline "Phone hacking: We're sorry", the statement says the practice amounted to an "unwarranted and unacceptable intrusion into people's private lives".
Trinity Mirror, which publishes the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People, has reached settlements with a number of phone hacking victims.
Last September, it admitted for the first time that its journalists hacked phones, and promised to compensate four celebrity victims.
These were actor Shane Richie, soap actors Lucy Benjamin and Shobna Gulati and BBC executive Alan Yentob.
A further six people who claimed they were hacking victims - including former England manager Sven Goran Erikssonhad - had their claims settled out of court.
