Dog banned from barking at night after annoying neighbours
A dog called Medo is in trouble for doing what dogs do: barking.
Fed up neighbours have been granted a temporary court order saying Medo must stop barking at night.
If not, his owner Anton Simunovic must pay some 2,591 euro (£1,928) - more than three times the average monthly wage in the area.
Mr Simunovic said: "He barks when somebody comes or when he hears something. But they sue us saying that the dog constantly barks, howls, wails and they can't live normally.
"And that the lady suffered psychological trauma, and allegedly she also had a stroke because the dog barks. And the dog just barks, like a dog."
The three-year-old mutt is now confined to a barn between 8pm and 8am and is the only dog in Croatia slapped with a no-barking ban.
Medo's troubles have led to 40,000 fans joining a Facebook page supporting him since his case hit the headlines.
Dog owners have sent hundreds of photos of their pets offering solidarity -and even some cats have joined the campaign.
A court in the town of Pula still has to make a final ruling, with the neighbour seeking 1,400 euros (£1,000) in damages.
