Armed raiders try to smash into Angel di Maria's home
Armed raiders attempted to smash their way into the home of Manchester United's Angel di Maria this weekend.
The Argentine winger was reportedly having dinner with his wife and young daughter when the raiders attempted to smash through patio doors using scaffolding poles.
However, they fled empty-handed when an alarm was sounded at the home in Prestbury, Cheshire.
The Sun reports that he and his family were taken away from the property by United's security team after the attack.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "At 7.30pm on Saturday, police received reports of a burglary at a house in the Chelford Road area of Prestbury.
"A number of offenders tried to gain access to the property by trying to smash the back door. The alarm was raised before the men got inside and they fled the scene."
Di Maria - who joined United from Real Madrid last year for a British record transfer fee of £59.7 million - had played in the club's 3-1 home victory against Leicester just hours before.
