Rap mogul Suge Knight arrested on murder charges after hit-and-run
Rap mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight has been arrested on murder charges after a fatal hit-and-run incident in Los Angeles.
The 49-year-old founder of Death Row Records was taken into custody after a man fitting his description ran over two people outside a burger shop in Compton.
The man was seen arguing with the two people before getting into a red Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck and backing into one of them before running them both over, Lieutenant John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told Reuters.
One of the victims died in hospital, a Sheriff's Department statement said. The condition of the second victim, who was also taken to the hospital, is not yet known.
The LA County Sheriff's information office said Knight, who turned himself over to authorities, was arrested at about 3am and is being held on $2 million bail. Knight's attorney said he accidentally ran over and killed a friend and injured another man as he fled attackers.
Death Row Records was a major rap label in the 1990s with artists including Dr Dre, Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg.
