"He was liked and valued by his team mates and coaches alike. He will be missed by all who knew him."

Captain Ross McMillan said it was "a pleasure to play alongside" the teenager.

The chief executive of the Scottish Football Association also tweeted his condolences.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "The body of a 19-year-old man has been found in the city centre.

"At around 10pm yesterday, Thursday 1st January 2015, officers discovered the body of a man on Longworth Street, near Deansgate."
