Rare footage has captured the moment a whale gave birth to her first offspring.

The mother gave birth to the baby calf at Changsha Underwater World in central China after five hours of labour and a 15-month pregnancy.

It is believed to be the first time a white whale has given birth at an aquarium in China.

The eight-year-old mother will not perform in the next two years so that she can take care of her baby, aquarium staff said.
