Fast-food chain McDonald's has released a series of behind-the-scenes videos which it hopes will dispel rumours about what goes into its burgers.

The company has launched a campaign in the US which aims to answer customer questions over the ingredients used in their products.

It comes after concerns over its food production techniques including its use of so-called 'pink slime' or lean finely textured beef.

In one of the videos posted on the McDonald's YouTube page, viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at one of the company's US beef suppliers Cargill.

"Are their lips and eyeballs in there?," the guide in the video asks one of the workers at the factory in Fresno, California.

The video shows the meat inspection area and quality control checks and the meat trimmings being grinded down into mince before being shaped into burgers and frozen.

When asked about the pink slime claims, another worker says: "We don't use that in our burgers".

Kevin Newell, executive vice president, chief brand and strategy officer for McDonald’s USA, said: "We’re proud of the food we serve our 27 million US customers every day, yet we know people have unanswered questions.

“So, we’re inviting everyone in the US on a journey to learn more about our food. We look forward to the opportunity to have an open conversation and to show people firsthand how we make our most iconic menu items.”
